How’s Your Franchise Going?

This past September Ron and I (mostly Ron) began a new adventure as we stepped into the franchise world. As with any new endeavor, we’ve ridden the Good Days/Bad Days Roller Coaster with hopes of leveling out the dips and steadily increasing the inclines. Two breathtaking dips came in November when we had to replace our office manager while simultaneously adopting a brand new software scheduling system. I would love to say we handled that with a calm spirit, but it’s not nice to lie.

Even before we knew we needed her, we now see that God providentially prompted our current manager to contact me. When the need arose, she was ready and more than willing to manage the business. Her skill, energy, and enthusiasm calmed our frazzled nerves. As she joined us in praying for the business, I couldn’t help but be reminded of Ecclesiastes 4:12, (The Message):

“By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped.”

Our kids at church like to say, “Do your best, and God does the rest!” We recently learned how true this really is. On January 8th our church family participated in our annual 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. During these three weeks, each of us refrains from something specific, such as meals, certain foods, TV, Facebook, video games, or whatever else might consume our time. This allows more time for prayer and worship. One of Ron and mine’s most consistent prayers was for God to be glorified through our business. We both knew it was time to let Him be in control. We were doing our best and our new manager was too, but we needed God to do the rest.

Before I tell you what happened next, let me explain something. In the world of residential house cleaning, corporate folks say that a newly formed franchise should get about 2 recurring customers a week. As we talked to our manager each day, her enthusiasm began to build because of the new customers she was acquiring. She and the two ladies she had hired were definitely doing their best. (Another three-stranded rope!)

Last week, she counted the number of new customers we had acquired from January 8th to the 28th – our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting.  A decent number would have been 6 according to corporate standards. We didn’t have 6. We didn’t have 10. We didn’t even have 15. We had 23 new customers!

Because God went far above and beyond all we could ask or imagine once again, I’m inspired to give Him more and more control over every part of my life. Allowing God complete control brings blessings, and those blessings allow us to provide more and more blessings to others.

“‘Bring your whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Malachi 3:6-12, NIV

You and I are part of an exciting corporation with God as our CEO. He knows the plans He has for you. He knows what you need before you do. He’s ready, willing, and able to oversee all operations. He wants to see new franchises open that are ready to bless customers longing to be cleaned from the inside out. Becoming one of these God-owned-and-operated franchises will blow the dust off your passion, put a glow in your testimony, and fill the air with a mighty sweet fragrance! Your friends will call you blessed, and they will long to linger in your delightful land.

I love the picture of God as my CEO! And I am so thankful for the 3 strand cords in my life! Thank you for your writing! Praying Psalm 90:17 around your business: May the favor of the Lord rest upon you and establish the work of your hands; yes, establish the work of your hands! Amen
