“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13:14)
I hope you’ve felt God’s infinite love wooing you closer to Him. Perhaps, you’ve taken a fresh look at how the grace of Jesus can teach you to say ‘no’ to ungodly things. This week, I’m praying that no matter how long you’ve been walking with Him, you will experience the fellowship of the Holy Spirit in a fresh, new way.
Several months after my grandfather passed away, I heard my grandmother talking in the next room. Thinking she was talking to me, I went to get a closer listen. That’s when she admitted that she still talked to my grandfather sometimes. They had been married for well over half a century, so in her heart he was still with her. She still asked his opinion on things, but I’m sure she had to smirk every now and then knowing she finally got the last word. 🙂 They lived together long enough that talking to him, even though she couldn’t see him, brought her comfort.
That’s the kind of intimacy the Spirit longs for. He wants us to become so used to His presence that we can’t imagine acting without his input. When the Holy Spirit breathed words through the pens of the Bible’s authors He knew you would one day read those words. He also knew Jesus would open the door for Him to live in your heart.
The Holy Spirit powerfully
protects you, and
translates your groanings.
He is the one who empowers you to do more than you ever thought possible. When you are needed, the Spirit arranges for you to be in the right place at just the right time. Sometimes, He may ask you to do
challenging things, and
even seemingly impossible things
just so He can prove His power to you and all of us on the sidelines. He loves seeing our faith grow!
The Holy Spirit meets your need to be needed. You were created to do great things. In fact those things were prepared for you before you were even born!
Just think of all the ways God used you this past year! Did you care for your family? Were you there for your friends? Did God do something through you that you still have a hard time believing? Did you call or write an old friend on a whim only to realize that was the exact moment they needed your encouragement? That was no coincidence, my friend. That was the Holy Spirit! He is your personal, divine appointment coordinator on duty 24-7. Tap into His power and experience His presence. Expect even better things from Him in 2017. Your power and vision is limited, but His is limitless. Rather than asking the Spirit to bless your plans this year, why not ask for the courage to fulfill His. He is capable of doing new, extraordinary things through you every single year.
God loves you so much He sent Jesus to offer you grace. Jesus cared enough for you to fulfill this promise:
“I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you and will even be in you! I will not leave you orphaned. I’m coming back. In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you’re going to see me because I am alive and you’re about to come alive.” (John 14:15-19, The Message)
Step into a more intimate fellowship with the Holy Spirit today and get a better listen. You are needed.
