We talked about it on the way to Nashville. Would Faith show up to sing with Tim at the Tim McGraw/Kenny Chesney Brothers of the Sun Tour? After all, it was a short trip from their home, she’s his wife and she does sing pretty well. We both hoped she’d sashay on over for at least a song. Me, for the singing and Ron, for the pretty.
We took our seats on the Tennessee Titan’s field and politely listened to the opening acts perform. Then, finally, after some rearranging of the stage it was show time! Tim came out and sang his little heart out for at least an hour and then said, “We’ve got a little something special for you tonight” and stepped back for the band to begin playing. After the first few notes I looked at Ron and said, “She’s here! He can’t sing this one without her.” Sure enough, after he finished the first verse of “I Need You”, she floated on stage with verse 2 and the crowd cheered. But then something remarkable happened. As she sang standing toe to toe with him, she touched his arm. The crowd went nuts! During the ‘I need you’ part, he reached for her hand causing the crowd to swoon. They finished the song, convincing us they really did need each other. She thanked the crowd, gave Tim a kiss and told him he looked good in white. By now the crowd was in a frenzy.
That’s when it struck me.
The world is starving to see marriages actually working. They are looking for genuine heartfelt displays of affection between husbands and wives. No, not the type that makes you turn your head in embarrassment, but real, sincere love. It’s the type of love spoken with kind words and connecting eyes – the type of love that can’t be hidden.
While we all hunger to see marriages that work, Satan is eager for us to see dysfunction, especially in Christian marriages. By discounting Christian marriage, Satan can discount love in general. If we can’t muster loving kindness to the one we’ve fallen in love with, how can we love the ones who are most difficult to love.
I believe the statement I heard years ago; if you want to show your children how much you love them, love their father (mother). When you love the other most important person in their lives, it helps anchor them in an understanding of God’s love.
My heart is tender to the ones of you who have been through divorce or lost a mate. Satan would like nothing better than for you to be consumed with bitterness. But God… God has a better plan for you. Keeping your heart open to His plan and His love will help you turn what Satan meant for harm into something extraordinary. He loves you so much!
Just have a little faith.
